Tips for Your Yosemite RV Rental Adventure

Plan the Trip

Even with Yosemite as the destination, why not plan out a full trip? Unless you already live in northern California and are right there; chances are you’re going to be enjoying some serious travel time on the road in the RV before you reach the park. Take a look at the different routes you can take to get there and what attractions are on the way.

Are you cutting across northern Nevada’s famous “Loneliest Highway?” Get the camera ready for some intense pictures! Cutting through Montana, Idaho, and Oregon in the Pacific Northwest? Are you coming up from the south? No matter where you are traveling from, then there are sure to be multiple places of interest along the way that are interesting to you or those who you are traveling with.

Pro Tip: Choose a route that lets you experience the most so you’re enjoying every section of the trip, and consider a separate route back from Yosemite if you have time to see and experience even more!

Call Ahead!

While the “traveling on a whim” style of adventure has a lot of merit to it, when it comes to Yosemite RV rental adventure you will definitely want to call ahead. This is one of the most popular National Parks in the country, even rivaling Yellowstone. RV friendly campsites in particular can be very hard to come by. You want to make sure you do your research, call around, and get yourself a reservation.

If you don’t call with a reservation; there’s a very good chance you won’t be able to find a place close by to park and make camp. Always call ahead and make a reservation. You don’t need the absolute best spot, but you will want a solid spot at a nearby RV-friendly campground to enjoy the most out of your vacation.

Bear Safety

While bear attacks are few and far between, however they do exist. This shouldn’t discourage people from visiting our National Parks, but it is critical to understand that bear encounters do occasionally happen and they can be dangerous in a worst case scenario. Learn about safe practices including staying in groups, avoiding being out in the wild during dawn/dusk times when bears tend to be active, and make sure to learn how to use bear spray (a non-lethal deterrent recommended by National Parks). Always keep an eye to safety, but don’t let fear paralyze you.
