A Weekend in Stowe, Vermont

Last week I wrote a post on things to do in Stowe, Vermont, and last weekend I went to check out (some of) those activities. It was me and my wife’s anniversary, which is always a good reason to spend the weekend somewhere. Stowe is absolutely perfect for that.

Stowe is a historic town in the heart of the state, often regarded as one of New England’s most romantic destinations. It is situated at the base of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest mountain. In winter, the town is overrun by winter sports enthusiasts, while in summer, it caters to hikers, canoers, fishermen and road trippers.

A Weekend in Stowe – One of New England’s Most Romantic Towns

On Saturday morning, we started off our anniversary weekend with a hike in the Green Mountains. We drove to one of the trailheads around Camel’s Hump, the third-highest mountain in the state, and headed to the summit.

After our hike, we checked in into our resort on Mountain Road, a road that connects the historic town center with Stowe Mountain Lodge and is lined with accommodations, shops and restaurants, and went to play a game of mini-golf, which, for us, is kind of a tradition on trips like this. We finished the day with dinner and drinks in a local brewery and more drinks in Stowe’s only nightclub.

Our actual anniversary was on Sunday and we started at with an excellent breakfast at the resort. The rest of the morning was dedicated to walking around historic Stowe, browsing the shops and boutiques, strolling the amazing Recreation Path, and having lunch. Enjoying the weather in the afternoon, we spent some time next to and in the pool and hung out in our suite.

After checking out on Monday, we jumped in our car and headed to Waterbury to spend the rest of the morning on an artificial lake. We hired two stand-up paddle boards and paddled to pretty much every corner of Waterbury Reservoir, basking in the late June sun.

The rest of the day was spent visiting a few more breweries: Rock Art Brewery, Crop Bistro & Brewery (the same one we went to on Saturday evening), Prohibition Pig and the Norwich Inn, which is located about twenty minutes by car from where we live.

A weekend in Stowe filled with activities, fun, food and beer—it can’t get much better than that!
