One of Sydney’s signature events, the annual Sydney Festival consists of a range of events from live music, burlesque circus acts as well as contemporary dance. Now in its 40th year, its performance roster has expanded to 370 performances in around 100 events in 30 venues across the city.
The origin of the Sydney Festival was conceived by the Sydney Committee in conjunction with the NSW State Government and the City of Summer with the aim of attracting people into the city centre during the traditionally quiet holiday month of January.
Sydney Festival 2016 Highlights
in 2016, the Sydney Festival will expand beyond just the city centre. There’ll be performances, displays and events in Parramatta, Hyde Park, Carriageworks in Redfern/Eveleigh and other hotspots around Sydney.
In many ways, the Sydney Festival is best understood as a celebration of Sydney and its style and energy reflect the confidence, diversity and vigour of one of the world’s most beautiful cities. One of the best parts of the Sydney Festival is that it is open to all and there are a variety of free events that festival goers can enjoy. For paid performances, the majority are available on the day for only $25.
Some of the main attractions in Sydney Festival 2016 include a live performance by the Flaming Lips, an opera extravaganza in the Domain, an intimate stand-up comedy performance in which comedians will deliver material about their families and much more.
Don’t forget about the festival village, where you can eat, drink and be merry at a range of markets and stalls during the festival shenanigans.
I’ll see you there.
