After all the posts about Croatia that have come your way recently (about Dubrovnik, Sibenik, Split and Krka National Park, for instance), you probably don’t need another reason to visit this spectacular country in the Adriatic.
In case you do need an extra push, the Plitvice Lakes National Park photos in this new photo-focused blog post will make you want to start packing right away!
Located only a couple of hours’ drive from Zadar on the coast of Dalmatia, Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of Croatia’s star attractions. This hugely popular park is made up of several extremely colorful lakes, each of which is situated at a different height. The lakes flow, cascade, into each other via countless waterfalls. It’s those cascading lakes Plitvice Lakes National Park is so famous for. In fact, this unique natural landscape is so valuable and stunning that UNESCO declared it World Heritage.
Even though it is a major highlight in this part of Europe, you won’t need more than a day to fully explore everything the park has to offer. You can hike around many of the lakes and enjoy the spectacular scenery in four to five hours. That being said; it is absolutely advised to arrive as early as possible in the morning. This way, you will avoid the enormous crowds that will undoubtedly visit the park starting mid-morning—that’s when the buses begin arriving.
When entering the park right after it opens, you’ll find yourself quite alone and able to fully enjoy the natural attractions, the early morning sunshine (great for photographs!) and the rare feeling of solitude. The park is surrounded with places to stay.
