Canary Islands, Spain
While mainland Spain is suffering through temperatures as high as 40°C in summer, the Canary Islands have got the cool Canary Current and reliable trade winds to keep them at a much more pleasant 30°C. For never-ending family attractions, amazing nightlife and gourmet Canarian restaurants, you can’t beat Tenerife. But if you want a quieter, more relaxed holiday with plenty of forest walks, serene beaches and small white-washed hamlets, try La Palma. Alternatively, go one better and see the whole archipelago on a Canary Islands cruise!
Sharm el Sheik, Egypt
If scuba diving or snorkelling is something you’ve always got to do on holiday, you need to visit Sharm el Sheik. This popular holiday resort is bursting surprisingly affordable luxury five-star hotels and postcard-perfect golden sand beaches. After you’ve had enough of working on your tan, grab your underwater gear and jump into the Red Sea for the chance to see all kinds of amazing aquatic animals, from emperor, angel and masked butterfly fish to anemone, rusty parrot and giant puffer fish. Not a fan of staying put in one place for too long? Hop on a Red Sea cruise and see the whole of the Middle East during your trip.
Orlando, Florida
Treat your kids to a holiday they’ll never forget by whisking them away to the theme parks of Orlando! Big queues and high temperatures are guaranteed in summer, but if you wait until just a couple of weeks before the kids start going back to school, the crowds will be thinner and temperatures slightly cooler. Despite what people say, summer really is the best time to visit Orlando, when all the city’s attractions are open, there’s an amazing buzz everywhere you go and there are all kinds of extra events going on because there are so many people to entertain!
