Iceland’s Golden Circle in 15 Inspiring Pictures

There’s plenty of information about the Golden Circle on the internet (including here on this blog), so in this post I’ll keep the number of words to a minimum. I will, however, tell you a bit about the highlights on this one-day road trip before we get to the beautiful Golden Circle photos below.

Iceland’s Golden Circle is arguably the most popular of the country’s attractions. It’s not an attraction in itself, though. This 300-kilometer loop starts and ends in Reykjavik (or at Keflavik Airport) and takes in three major highlights in Iceland. The stars of the show are Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir and Strokkur geysers, and the Gullfoss waterfall. In addition to those, there are a couple of other photogenic waterfalls along the way.

The beauty of the Golden Circle is not only that it encompasses everything Iceland is about, but also that it’s easily completed in just one day. I covered everything in about eight hours. This all makes it the perfect thing to do during a layover in Iceland. If you’re traveling between Europe and North America, I strongly encourage you to take advantage of the policy of Icelandair and WOW Air and include a one- or two-day stopover in Iceland in your itinerary. Those airlines won’t charge you anything extra if you split up your flight. You can conveniently pick up a rental car at Keflavik Airport.

You can refer to other online resources or actual travel guide for more information about the fantastic Golden Circle. This post is all about inspiration, so let’s get to it! Below, you’ll find fifteen stunning Golden Circle photos.
