A Fun-Filled Girls Getaway to Georgian Bay

Every year my cousin goes on vacation with her college girlfriends.  It’s a time for them to catch up on their current lives, reminisce about old times, and make new memories that continue to strengthen their friendships. This inspired me to plan my own trip with my girlfriends; but planning a retreat out of the country for complex personalities and interests is a difficult task.  Some simply want rest and relaxation, while others want to include adventure and cultural experiences. Fortunately for me, everyone wanted to travel to Canada; and after hours of research, a girls getaway to Georgian Bay might just do the trick. Here’s why…

Rest and Relaxation

Georgian Bay sits in the northeastern section of Lake Huron, in the province of Ontario, Canada. The area offers a variety of accommodations, from large resorts to B&Bs. If you’re traveling with a big group, it might be better to rent a beach house. The Georgian Bay Beach Club has a selection of rentals that offer amazing views, all the amenities of home, and direct access to the water. The quiet and peaceful surroundings make it suitable for those in your group seeking rest and relaxation. I can already imagine catching the sunrise with a steaming mug of coffee or sharing a couple of bottles of wine with friends while watching the sunset on our wraparound porch with bayside views.

Adventurous Spirits

Freefall Adventure at Blue Mountain Village

A girls getaway to Georgian Bay doesn’t have to be completely chill. In fact, the area boasts a number of activities that cater to those with adventurous spirits. The Blue Mountain Village offers a variety of action-packed events, activities, and entertainment. You and your girlfriends can load up in your jeep rental car and drive just a little over an hour from the Georgian Bay Beach Club. Zip line across the resort at a maximum speed of 50kph with a friend or join others free falling on an air bag from 21 feet above. If a theme park attraction is more to your liking, try the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster instead. As an incentive to get through all activities, discounts are available with bundle purchase. Finally, end your day of adventure and daring behavior by sampling one of the eateries nearby.

Discover and Learn About Native Culture

Georgian Bay area is also an area steep with history and culture. The Anishinaabek people of Wiikwemkoong First Nation offer a guided tour of their lands in what they describe as an “authentic indigenous experience.” Take a guided tour to four historic sites on Manitoulin Island where you can learn about the legend of Zhibzhii, the underwater spirit. You can also go on a guided canoe tour of Prairie Point or explore your artistic side through the Seven Grandfathers painting experience. Lastly, you can also enjoy a traditional pow-wow and aboriginal theater in the ruins of a church.  After spending a day here, you and your girlfriends will leave more informed and with a renewed spirit.

With so much to offer, a girls getaway to Georgian Bay might just be what you and others need to strengthen the bonds of friendship.
