Find a Suitable Destination

As much as you are craving a luxurious shopping spree in Monaco or a cultural tour in Florence, perhaps you should reconsider your travel destination and find something more family-friendly. The whole point of a family vacation is to spend some quality time with your loved ones and cherish the time you have together. This is why it is important to choose a destination that will suit every member of the family. This might be challenging, but before you book a trip ask yourself a few crucial questions like will that trip strengthen your family relations, are there any activities suitable for young children and what kind of knowledge and experience can your family gain from the said travel. The key is to create a perfect blend of fun and learning.

Packing 101

Packing is always regarded as one of the most stressful parts of any travel preparations. In order to avoid a hectic mess that usually happens, start with the youngest family members. After all, babies and toddlers require more care so it is better to pack all the essentials first and then focus on the rest. For those older family members, ask for everybody to make their own packing list and to pack lightly. It is also a good idea to provide your toddlers with an opportunity to pack their own goody bag with a few of their favourite toys that they will keep by their side. When it comes to packing, it is enough to keep these few things in mind: pack lightly, roll not fold and think practically.

Prepare Your Children

Traveling can be quite a stressful experience for children, especially really young ones, so it is important to properly prepare them for the trip. Once you book a holiday make sure to talk with your children about the upcoming events. Guide them through the process from the very beginning. Try to explain where you are going, what you are going to see, but also do not forget to prepare them for the travel alone. Lengthy car rides or even airplane tours can be quite stressful for kids, so it is recommended to tell them in advance what to expect.

Include Everybody in the Preparations

If there is one thing that you should not allow it is to carry alone the complete burden of the preparations. A family vacation means that every member of the family should participate in the preparations and packing. This can be a great way to teach your children the meaning of responsibility and independence. This should be applied on every aspect of the trip, so begin with picking a destination all together, organizing your itinerary, packing with joint forces and preparing everything altogether. Not only will it be useful but it will be a great learning and bonding experience as well.

On The Road

The road itself knows to be a difficult experience on its own, especially if you are taking a lengthy holiday to a faraway location. This means that you should equip yourself the best you can and make sure to maintain a pleasant atmosphere throughout the journey. If you are going on a car trip, remember that a stereo is a necessary travel companion. Also, do not forget about a quality GPS navigation system, which is one of the most important parts of any vacation. Keep your kids occupied by giving them colouring books or disposable digital cameras and most importantly – do not forget the snacks.

Family holidays sound like a great idea at the beginning but quite often they turn to be one of those chaotic adventures with everybody screaming, crying and frantically searching for their belongings. Fortunately there is a cure that can fix even the most unsettling situations during these family ventures and that cure is quite simply – proper organisation.
