The 3 Best Northern England Spa Retreats

Living in the north of England, you do get accustomed to the dreary, wet weather, dark mornings and nights and an atmosphere that makes you want to jet off somewhere exotic at the earliest chance. But, commitments are commitments, and unfortunately I’m not 19 anymore… so this prospect is just as attractive, but simply isn’t as realistic and ‘easy’ as it used to be. I think that’s probably why I’ve learned to love Sheffield and the northern England spa retreats so much – because I haven’t really been anywhere for a year or so. In the past, I barely spent any time at home ‘oop North’, and stopped really giving it a chance, in favour of travelling around to faraway places and living elsewhere instead.

I know I’ll devote 2017 to getting out there and seeing the sights again, but for now, I’m quite happy in my little Sheffield bubble. Plus, the north of England actually has so much to do! If, like me, you’d like to spend the early part of the New Year pampering yourself and recovering from the festive season, you’ll be pleased to know that the North is full of luxurious country retreats and suburban spa hotels that offer a range of treatments. Here are the best ones.

Top 3 Northern England Spa Retreats

Jetty Spa – Gilpin Hotel & Lake House, Lake District

Ideally situated in peaceful Windermere in the Lake District, this one-of-a-kind hotel spa is ideal for those who often feel the need to escape the hustle & bustle of city living. The Lake House Jetty Spa has only recently opened, and is a highly exclusive place. There are only 6 suites for 12 guests, and was specially designed with couples in mind. Guests can choose from a range of treatments, from a relaxing aromatherapy massage to holistic facials – there really is a treatment to suit every type of guest. The hotel spa also offers an aromatherapy consultation, a walk on the stunning woodland trail, a heated indoor pool, and a hot tub with the choice of champagne. What more could you possibly ask for?

Titanic Spa – Huddersfield

Perfect for those on a budget who still enjoy a touch of luxury, the Titanic Spa in Huddersfield provides a range of seasonal offers. Choose from an overnight break in one of the cosy, modern rooms, or simply spend a full day at the Northern England spa instead. Unlike many other spas, this one has so much choice when it comes to packages. They really do have a package that’s suited to each and every type of guest – all within a reasonable price. For example, the Detox Package starts with the invigorating Heat & Ice Experience, followed by a 25-minute scalp massage. Guests then get to experience the detoxifying body wrap, finished with a 55-minute expert facial. This costs £165.00 from Monday to Friday, and £180.00 on Saturdays & Sundays. And that’s only one of the many treatments!

Or, if you’d prefer a longer stay, choose from one of the stunning en-suite bedrooms or an exclusive spa apartment, ideal for larger groups. Treatments at this sophisticated Northern England spa include the Carita Refining Contour Body Treatment, which is known to improve skin quality and texture, the Red Island Exfoliating Ritual, which leaves skin feeling silky smooth, and the genius NEOM Sleep Treatment.
